What are Major News Today?
(23-Feb-2013)
1.
HYDERABAD BLASTS :
The Hyderabad Blasts are a grim reminder of the terrorist threat for India from external and internal sources. This terrorism is clearly an international phenomenon affecting many countries. Pakistan is a sufferer but would never co-operate with India to rid both countries of this menace.
We do need NCTC – but the Opposition Parties have deep rooted suspicions about its future use by the UPA.
UPA must therefore come forward to have Joint control of NIA and NCTC with the Principal Opposition Party in Parliament – to remove this wide-spread fear of the Opposition parties that Congress will misuse NIA and NCTC against the opposition Parties, instead of using them genuinely against terrorism.
Today, no party has even a 25% mandate of the TOTAL ELECTORATE. With 50% of electorate not voting and the rest getting distributed among so many parties, Congress and BJP both do not have even 25% vote each, of the total electorate. Therefore, key national issues like tackling terrorism through NCTC or NIA must be overseen together by both of them. Then only, rule of majority will make some sense in our democracy. Congress performance in the use of CBI does not create that confidence in Opposition Parties. Therefore, such new methods are needed.
Else, some day, Congress also would be a worse sufferer of the same method of Governance which exists today.
When a CCTV camera goes out of order, there is now great need to suspect much more than a mere a snapped wire. It could be the IM or LeT or someone who could have deliberately snapped it. It could be that the area could see a Blast. It is better for Governments to be paranoid about terrorism for some time, so that people will lead life in peace.
We also need a separate MINISTRY OF INTERNAL SECURITY with a cabinet Minister overseeing it. The present Home Ministry is just not the appropriate one any more for internal security.
2. MAOIST BLAST KILLS 6 COPS IN BIHAR (In a village in Gaya District)
The Policemen were actually patrolling , during the process of selection of Gram Sevikas, when the IED was exploded by the Maoists. Now, we want to nab the Maoists who did this. The Maoists never wanted to nab the COPs. They wanted to blast them only. Why do we want to NAB the Maoists, instead of blasting them? Where are all those Human rights organizations opposing every single move against the MAOISTS? Why don’t they condemn these killings by the MAOISTS now? Unless the state can terrorize the terrorist, the terrorist will always terrorize the state. That is what is happening. Maoists are recruiting small children into their outfits. These children will like killing others eventually.
Unless, the state terrorizes the Maoists, the Maoists will not realize their folly and will be gloating over their successes. They will recruit more and more children forcibly. This is what LTTE did in Sri Lanka. This is what Al Queda , Taliban, LeT, IM and all other terrorist outfits are doing across the world. We need swift Government action to prevent this.
Some time ago, it was in the News that Art of Living (of Sri Sri Ravishankar) was establishing many schools in these tribal areas. We need more such commendable initiatives by private organizations and also the Government.
That apart, Government must deal with all such declared terrorist outfits with IRON FISTS, not with kid gloves. If they are decisively defeated, they will be willing to learn lessons. Not otherwise. That’s what Lord Krishna taught through Mahabharat.
3. Second De-Salination Plant to bail out Chennai city this summer
Tamilnadu CM, J.Jayalalithaa declared open the nemmeli Desalination Plant with a capacity of 100 million litres per day of water. This is a commendable step and opens up the possibility of meeting the Huge requirements of Chennai city, all with sea water, in future. More such plants can be constructed swiftly, of course, after assessing the efficiency of this plant and removing any further technical glitches. Chennai must remain open for such new technologies for meeting many of its needs. Pumping the balance sea water back into the sea must of course be done efficiently. Else, the land around will be permanently unfit for other purposes. Precautions apart – the effort itself is commendable.
4. AZIM PREMJI GIVES Rs.12,300 crores for philanthropic Activities:
The GIVING PLEDGE campaign led by Warren Buffet and Bill Gates has named Premji among the Billionaires who have pledged Major share of their wealth for philanthropic activities. Other Indian Bigwigs who have given such Big commitments include Shiv Nadar, founder of HCL who has committed Rs.580 Crores towards Education and G.M.Rao, Chairman of GMR Group who committed Rs.152.99 crores for education of the underprivileged. Premji has also said recently that “I am committed to transferring more of my wealth to scale up the endowment of the foundation”. This News is on the 17th Page of TOI. It could have been on front Page.
Anyway, Hats off to these BIG HEARTS led by Azim Premji. India and Indians must be truly proud of these great names. We all want to see the names of more of our Industrialists coming forward in a Big Way to fund the development of India’s Underprivileged.
I am sure, the TATAs, Birlas, Ambanis, Singhanias, the Adanis, the TVS Group and all others – will come forward to better the record of Premji. The real competition must be here. I am also giving around Rs.60,000 p.m. to orphanages right now. I will better it to Rs.1.lakh from now - being just a retired officer.
Declaring is not considered good in this area. But, right now – this is needed – to promote competition in this one, much needed area.
Just compare it with the record of Indian Politicians – who want to milk the system rather than giving it back. But, there must be many Good Politicians there too – we just want to hear what they are doing – with compassion and love.
5. MODI BATS FOR DALITS SOLEMNIZING HINDU WEDDINGS
Narendra Modi Government is coming up with a scheme of training DALITS (like scavengers etc) in conducting Hindu religious rituals. The Gujarat Government is making a Budget provision also for it. It appears that Modi plans to attend marriage ceremonies solemnized by priests from the most oppressed Dalit communities.
Dalit children will be trained in institutions like Sola Bhagvat Vidyapith and Somnath Sanskrit University. Hats off to Narendra Modi – for this revolutionary step. Usually Politicians are only dividing people in the name of reservations. This is one step which can unite people to step beyond caste boundaries and yet be great Hindus.
If Modi takes it up seriously, Temple entry barriers, if any, can be rooted out within a week in Gujarat.
One or two improvements that can be suggested for this Dalit priest scheme are – (i) Associating all communities in these weddings in some activity or other, at least in the Marriage feast (ii) Making the Dalit Priests compulsorily explain the significance of the KEY MANTRAS (to be repeated by Bride groom, bride and parents in law) to these people, so that they appreciate the vows that they are taking in the marriage. The respect for these priests and for the marriage ceremony itself will go up a few notches thereby.
Again, this news also is on Page.13. Can we have such far-reaching news on Page 1 or 2 please.
