RAMA OF 22^ST CENTURY

IS IT NECESSARY TO PROTECT SITA?

     Last Night, I had a Dream. As Dreams go, they transform everything on earth into some unfathomable characters, reinvent them to suit the dream and carry the dream like a Novel, or a serial episode, which may look absurd when we wake up, but looks so real in a dream. It is a real dream. I can’t help it. It is a dream. None can control a dream.

         You all know , it happens. Now, the dream.

         It is 22^nd century. Again Rama, the great, has come to life. He has gone to the forests and is enjoying himself in the company of Sita and Lakshmana. But there are huge rumors and murmurs in the background, why Lakshmana was at all needed to do the Protecting / snooping on Sita all the time? Is he not needed to do other important work? After all, he is trained to be the head of the ATS later! Also, Sita did not ask for such snooping. Even Janaka did not ask for it. Can a Husband ask his brother to be doing snooping on his wife all the time? So go all the rumors and murmurs. 

Bharata comes and tells the rumors to Rama. Rama is aghast. He tells Bharata, I only want him to protect Sita – and not do snooping or stalking. Anyway, Lakshmana is a Brahmachari. He will not do such things. But, Bharata says, I have told you the talk of the town. You are answerable to all courts and commissions and most of all, the TV Channels. Whether you protect or snoop, it is all the same. Some are calling it stalking on Sita without her permission. Rama is disgusted. He vows never to see Ayodhya again and goes deeper into forests alongwith Lakshmana.

         Then comes the inevitable Golden deer. He is some foolish fellow, wanting to cause trouble to Sita, who had a great snooper around. He drew away Rama somehow or other. Sita said, I am your equal anyway, you go hunt the deer. Rama, goes bowing down before Sita.

         The deer leads him to an ATM in the south, and Rama finds a woman constable guarding the ATM at Night. Rama is afraid to go near the ATM at Night and walks away from deer which was so tempting him to enter the ATM. The Golden deer was easily killed by the Guard and eaten away. It happens – in 22^nd century – in dreams.

         As Rama walks along, he hears the inevitable shouts of - Ha, Lakshmana, from behind. He comes back and finds, Lakshmana was coming on the way. Lakshmana tells him the inevitable story, of how Sita accused him and how people will believe her and not him, without an iota of proof. And, Lakshmana who cannot become king wants to be at least a lawyer or Judge! He doesn’t want any investigations on him later; therefore, he stopped snooping on Sita and came back.

         Rama understands Lakshmana’s predicament and both go back to find an empty Hut. Rama asks Lakshmana, did you put the Lakshman Rekha. Lakshmana says, no, they are not allowed now.

         So, things happen. Vali was about to kill Sugreeva in a fight and then, Rama kills Vali and make friendship with Sugreeva. The Blue cross hears this killing of the Vanara called Vali and immediately lodges a complaint against Rama. 

Anyway, Sugreeva becomes King, trashes the complaint and sends Hanuman and all Vanara Army men in search of Sita.

         But, there was a furore in the entire Kishkinda. Would Sugreeva do the same for every woman in Kishkinda? Was it needed only for the sake of Rama, who was just a friend of Sugreeva? If it happens to someone who is not such a friend of Sugreeva, would he be willing to send  his army men? Would he send even 2 constables? So go all the rumours.

         But, Once Sugreeva says, his orders get obeyed in Kishkinda. Not like Other kingdoms like Mithila or Ayodhya, where they don’t take their kings, always philosophizing, very seriously. No development happens there. All development happens only in Kishkinda.

         So, Hanuman, Angad, Jambavath – the whole ATS, also goes out hunting for Sita. But, only Hanuman is well equipped to cross over to Lanka, wharever it is. So, he goes on his well equipped Drone to Lanka. On the way, the windowpane breaks and the door opens. It all happens. He makes an emergency landing on a hill in the middle of the sea, repairs, refuels and goes again to Lanka. There, he meets maharajapakshe, the then president and discusses all the matters. There are many Chinese in the President’s room. There are no Indians but there are Chinese everywhere in Lanka. Indians are unwilling to go there but Chinese are ever willing. MP consults the Chinese Advisers and promises to help. But, Hanuman goes away on his drone in search of Sita.

         Finally, he finds Sita under the Asoka Tree. Ravan was sitting on a top branch of the same tree and was looking at Sita stealthily. Hanuman goes to him and asks what is the matter.

         Ravan says, what can I do? I never even touched her. Now, I am afraid of the Law. They will say, I raped her. Hanuman says, that is true. But, for bringing Sita here, You have to face the consequences, anyway.

         Being an ATS man, Hanuman snoops around , finds a few Pakistani terrorists and kills them all in an encounter. This is videographed automatically by some TV Channels and promptly aired in Kishkinda. After all, Hanuman has not followed any due process of law, before killing the terrorists.

         When he comes back to Kishkinda, there was raging discussion in Kishkinda, how an ATS man and his squad can be sent for just locating one woman. Anyway, Sita was not raped by Ravan. Could the ATS not wait till it happens and Sita complains? What is the purpose right now? Is there a request from her? Probably, Sita’s fundamental rights are infringed. Even Ravan’s fundamental rights are infringed. So, why all this snooping? What real harm, if any, came to her so far? None. So, why the snooping?

         There was raging discussions in all TV channels on how her and Ravan’s fundamental rights can be infringed by Rama and Laskhmana. But, Sugreeva says, NONSENSE, I don’t want all this. My boss is Rama. He wants it. That’s it. No one is clear, what Sugreeva called as NONSENSE. And why. So, people in the Parliament (of Kishkinda) shelve all the Bills. 

         But, the TV Channels are raging in controversy after controversy. 24 hours per day are not enough and 200 channels are not enough. Sita sends a letter through Ravan that, stop, my fundamental rights are alright. Don’t discuss me anymore. But, Media anchors insist that Sita herself should come and tell face to face. Sita says,  I reserve my right to beat anyone who violates my Privacy. Even Ravan did not do it. Why should TV anchors do it? One TV anchor says, yes, it is my fault. I apologize and resign my post for 6 months. He goes off somewhere to enjoy himself. The snooping was all too much in his life.

         Back in the Chattisgarh forests, naxals are moving around in small drones, specially fitted for them by Pakistan or China. Why they are still in forests , god only knows. Force of Habit, perhaps. What people are doing when Naxals are getting the Drones – no one knows.

         The world is so confusing.

         Suddenly, I wake up in horror, as bombs are dropping all around me from my TV channel. My God. All of it is a dream. No one has invented a technology so far to drop bombs on me through my TV channel. I am still safe.

         I vow not to touch any news paper or see a news channel of India especially, for the next one month. I need to clear my brain of all the cobwebs and become more straight forward and clear thinking. I need to get rid of these horrifying dreams. As the saying goes, No News is GOOD NEWS. Really.
